Leafpool got her name for finding the Moonpool
Crowfeather was named after Feathertail
Squirrelflight got her name because she likes jumping out of trees and pretending to fly

It's not official yet of who the real mother is. It will be revealed to is in the final book in the series when it comes out in April, but it is hinted that it might be Leafpool. And if you pay real close attention to the conversation they had after the three found out, it says that Squirrelflight wasn't their mother, but still that they were clan-born. Most people's guesses are that it's Leafpool/Crowfeather's kits. I believe this, but I have a couple other guesses as well. But a lot think this ever since Jaypaw was named Jayfeather, thinking he might posibly be named after his father. And it never says Squirrelflight had a swollen stomach. It says she had birth outside of the camp alone with just Leafpool--another reason to believe Leafpool is the possible mother. But I don't recall any of the books stating that.
